Eloisa, our OSP therapist, explains some of the common signs and feelings that can show up in our lives, and reminds us that it is okay to reach out for help.

How do I know if I need therapy?

I feel:

Different needs. Different speeds.

OSP offers a range of mental health services that are informed by cognitive-behavioural therapy. We listen to you and match you to the service and care that best meets your needs. Whether that’s reading materials in your own time, engaging with online tools, or speaking to us virtually, by phone or in-person – we meet you where you are.

Getting to know you

The first step is booking an initial appointment with us and completing some questionnaires. We ask a series of questions as part of our comprehensive process, so that we can learn more about you, your goals, and understand the challenges you are facing.

During your appointment, our assessment clinician will explain the different services we offer and will match you to the one that best suits your needs. Most people will begin with BounceBack, CAB or iCBT services. If OSP is not the right fit, we will recommend other services.

Your progress is monitored closely. If you need more support, you can move to a different service within the program, including individual or group therapy.

  • BounceBack

Helps build coping skills through workbooks, videos and telephone calls with a trained coach. Telephone coaching and workbooks are available in many languages, including English, French, Cantonese, Mandarin, Spanish, and Tamil.

  • Clinician-Assisted Bibliotherapy (CAB)

Focuses on readings, exercises and brief one-on-one therapy sessions to support your goals. CAB therapists can offer service in many languages, including English, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, and Cantonese.

  • Internet-Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (iCBT)

Delivered online, guided by a therapist. It includes modules, readings and exercises that help in learning coping and resiliency skills. Service and materials are offered in English and French.

  • Individual or Group Psychotherapy

Individual sessions are held weekly (virtually or in-person) with a registered therapist. Individual psychotherapy can be offered in English, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, or Spanish. Interpretation services are available for various languages.

Group therapy brings clients facing similar concerns together. Group therapy is offered in English.

Active engagement

Once you begin, you will be required to actively engage in your progress through readings, practicing skills between sessions and tracking your progress. Tracking your progress helps you and your coach or therapist evaluate how you are doing, make changes as needed, and support you through any challenges.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What happens after I refer myself to the program?

Please Note: We are working to launch a more efficient intake process and the information below reflects our current process which will change in early 2024.

    1. After completing your referral form, you will be emailed a link to book an appointment (usually within 2-3 business days). Please check your email. If you don’t have email or if your email bounces, we will call you and leave a voicemail.

    2. An intake screener will phone you at the appointment time to gather some more information. Usually, you will be scheduled for an assessment during this phone call. Sometimes, the intake screener may recommend other services that are better match for your needs.

    3. The assessment will be conducted by phone by a trained therapist. During the assessment, you will be directed to the OSP service that best fits your needs. If OSP is not the best fit for you, recommendations will be made for services outside of OSP.

  • Do I need an OHIP card to make a referral to OSP?

No. We ask for and collect Ontario Health card numbers, but we can provide services for those without a Health card number. Even if you do not have an Ontario Health care, you must still be an adult (18+) and currently living in Ontario.

  • Do I need a family doctor to be referred?

No. You do not need to have a primary care practitioner or family doctor to refer you or to receive services from OSP. You can self-refer here.

  • Do I need to be a Canadian citizen to be referred?

No. OSP accepts referrals for any adult (aged 18+) who is currently living in Ontario. This includes international students who are living in Ontario at the time of treatment.

  • Do I need to live in Brampton, Halton, Mississauga, or South Etobicoke to be referred?

No, we welcome anyone over 18 from across Ontario to access our services. However, there are OSP networks across the province and you may want to seek service from a network closer to you. Here is a list of the networks across the province.

Benefits of accessing a network in your region are access to in-person services and providers that have familiarity with other service options in your region. It is your choice where you seek to access service for OSP.

  • What is a self-referral to OSP?

A self-referral empowers you to decide if you need mental health support through the OSP program. You can fill out our form without the need of a doctor referring you, provided you are an adult 18+ and living in Ontario.

  • Who do I contact for information regarding the status of my referral?

Please contact our intake team at: osp@carepointhealth.ca or 905-728-1308 (or toll-free 1-833-677-0174)

  • What are the wait times?

Our wait times are variable and dependent on the number of referrals we receive at any given time. Generally, after your assessment appointment when you are matched to a service, you can expect to start the program in 4-6 weeks.

  • Why am I asked about ethnicity, income, gender, etc.? How is this information used?

Health equity is an important goal of OSP, and the collection of standard health equity data helps improve OSP services. All clients will be asked about their gender, sexual orientation, racial/ethnic group, Francophone status, work status, student status, family income, and immigration status. Clients are not required to provide information if they do not feel comfortable doing so, and this will not affect their eligibility or the quality of the services they receive.

The collection of this data can help OSP:

    • Identify and address inequities in our services, such as access and wait times.

    • Understand which population groups are being overserved, underserved, or excluded.

    • Identify improvements to service provision and tailor care to the diverse clients being served.

  • What languages are services offered in?

Some OSP services are offered in multiple languages and many also have interpretation available. Please note your interpretation and languages needs on the self-referral form.

If you have some English proficiency, you can also provide more information about your needs during the initial phone call with the intake screener.
